Respect The Runway: DC Fashion Week.

DCFW

DC Fashion Week is right around the corner… literally. Starting this coming Monday, the District’s largest fashion exhibition will be kicking off its 11th year with a bang. Founded by Ean Williams, the week brings designers from all around the world. According to DCFW:

DC Fashion Week is the largest exhibition of fashion apparel in the District of Columbia. The designers of DC Fashion Week are an eclectic group of designing talent who come from around the globe. From the high fashion capitol of New York City, to the exotic coasts of New Zealand, to the exquisite city life of Belgium, they’re taking the nation’s capital by storm.

Additionally, yours truly is an intern volunteer this year, and I would love it if you all came out and supported me, Mr. Williams, and the entire team who work to ensure the week is a major success. For more information about next week’s events, be sure to visit the official website.

Come out and have a great time! (Or don’t come, and be a total LAME!)

I’ll see you all there!!!

Stay Classick!

I Wish I Was European.

beams

Japanese retailer, Beams, has released it’s Fall/Winter 2009-2010 Look Book. The styles are well put together and consists of both casual and more business looks. I say, “I wish I was European,” because the brand will be sold, in the coming months, in Beams’s stores throughout Europe. Check it out, and “Find Your Own Style.”

Foot Support.

Today we welcome a few more shoe collections into our wish lists.

supra

Here we have the Supra NS Pony Hair & Wildlife Pack. We all know that I am anti-sneaker, as I try my best to mention with each of these posts, but these could actually get my money. Most specifically, the ones pictured bottom-left in the picture above. I mean who can pass up exotic animal hairs. The ones top-right are made with pony hair, and being that I have a pair of pony haired sneakers I’d recommend them to everyone…they’re just so exclusive. Check out more pics below and purchase them at Factory 413.

Gentlemen Get Groomed

Kid Cudi GQIn this month’s issue of GQ Magazine, the Conde Nast Publication did a feature about neat hairstyles for men, one of those being the “Neo-fro” as epitomized by Kid Cudi- a style I’m going for currently, though I’m starting to reconsider that (Some things aren’t for everyone… Though I don’t look bad at all!). Rather than take the entire article- besides, Cudi was the only African American featured- I’d figure I would offer my own hair grooming tips:

1. If you don’t have him/her (yes fellas, females can cut, and from my experience, well), GET A LEGIT BARBER.

Hair Brush

2. For everyday upkeep, get a hard, medium, and soft hairbrush. The soft is for the days following your cut, provided it’s cut low. The medium brush is used as your hair grows. And if you’re at the hard brush stage, it’s about that time to invest in a cut.

Shea Butter

3. Long gone are the days of “Blue Magic” Hair Grease and “Luster’s Pink Oil.” Step it up to a hair mosturizer, such as ” Shea Butter Moisturizer by Fantasia IC.” I’ve just started using it, and I’m a fan already. For guys with “The Cudi” or something similar, all you have to do is apply, style, and go. It helps the hair to retain moisture, as well as give it a nice luster.

4. I don’t need this much, but if it applies, there’s nothing wrong with getting a line-up weekly. I honestly shouldn’t have to remind you of that.

Men's Haircuts

5. If you’re sporting facial hair, keep it tight! There’s nothing more unsightly than wild, unkept facial hair. Especially if you’re considering good employment. Facial hair is to be treated like the hair on your dome. It should actually compliment the style, not take away from it. Act accordingly!

Anymore tips, feel free to add!

BET Awards…Fashion Do’s.

Last night’s BET Awards were anything but appeasing, yet there were a few fashions that kept me intrigued.

bet2

First, there’s my wife and all time favorite female singer, Beyonce Knowles, sporting none other than a Balmain mini-dress. Regardless of what anyone says, I feel that the silhouette is amazing and the color adds just enough of a pop. If you had a body like her’s you’d wanna show it off too. Let’s just be glad she didn’t wear one of Tina’s originals.

bet3

Next there’s my boy Drake, with a pretty casual approach. Tip to Ciara, this is how you pull off casual on a Red Carpet. From the cardigan to the ankle boots, I’d def rock this ensemble. [BTW I think he made sitting on a stool rapping look pretty smooth. Hope the ACL heals.]

Innovation At It’s Best.

Moncler Gamme Bleu is a men’s collection of urban garments. For the Spring 2010 collection, Creative Director Thom Browne choreographed this amazing show which is probably the most innovative I’ve seen to date. Along with a great idea came great fashions, and together the two have taken over the fashion world. With this only being the second collection for Moncler Gamme Bleu, they have started off extremely strong and I look forward to seeing what is to come. Check out some of the hot fashions.

Hellfire Club Redux.

John Galliano 1

For his Fall/Winter ’09 Collection, John Galliano drew inspiration from old England, most notably Sir Francis Dashwood and his Hellfire Club, an exclusive club for the British high society during the 16th Century. In his interview, Galliano also states that he was inspired by old paintings, books, and mythology, combining elements of streetwear, sportswear, and melding it into “The Galliano DNA,” somthing the designer says his discerning target audience seeks.

I’m loving Galliano’s collection. Aside from the old English feel, it gives me a Pirates of the Caribbean vibe as well. And ladies, did you peep the shoes?!? yes, heels are coming in higher than ever, but to incorporate such raw materials as plywood, Galliano is taking the shoe game to another plateau.

Men In Prints.

sibling2

Animal prints have always been considerably hard to pull off. And in most cases we’d only see our beautiful women trying to do so. But as times progress, as well as fashion, one designer has tried to break the old tradition. London based menswear label Sibling has put a collection in place that totally pays respect to leopard print. From cardigans to t-shirts, made with everything from cotton to sequin, this collection is VERY risque’ but I, myself, am intrigued by a few of the pieces. Tell me how you feel.

I’m Not Crazy…Don’t Call Me Crazy.

Photographer, Matt Irwin has really captured the essence of a psycho killer with his photo story in the June issue of Dazed & Confused. Inspired by the movie, An American Psycho, this is a scary take on fashion. As a preview to the A/W 2009 menswear collections, this set of photos is stimulating to the eye, mind and wallet, making you want to go out and immediately buy most of the designs. With designers from Balenciaga to D&G, I’d love to wear just about anyone of the styles. Check it out for yourself.
