News in Fashion.

Being that UC has decided to devote this month to celebs, we have decided to keep any other posts to a minimum so I’m about to give you a lot in this little post so please READ, don’t just look at pictures.

First, we have info on an upcoming movie about Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel.

The first biopic about the legendary French fashion designer, Coco Chanel, starring, Audrey Tautou, has finally released. The movie focuses on Chanel’s childhood and early womanhood, before she became famous. It showcases the events and people that shaped her, and will premiere in the US on September 25. Check it out.

Is it just me, or does September need to hurry here??

Remaining in the theme of Chanel, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot for Lily Allen’s Fall 2009 ad campaign for the new handbag line, Chanel Coco Cocoon. It seems as though Allen is very happy to be a part of this launch. Check her out with Creative Director, Karl Lagerfield.

Celebs in Fashion.

Hello Everyone!!! This month at UC, we’ve decided to pay our respect to the people that inspire a lot of what fashion was, is and will become. CELBRITIES!!! From MJ, himself, may he rest in peace, to Kanye West. From Audrey Hepburn to Rihanna. Celebrities alike, have been making and breaking trends for years. They even inspire the not so cool ones. i.e. MC Hammer’s hammer pant which has now become the more tamed harem pant. We can always look forward to something new when it comes to our celebs so it’s only right we pay homage.

This week we start off with Hollywood Glam: New Meets Old, in which we honor the women that make getting up in the morning and stepping out of bed beautiful, look easy. Stay tuned for some great articles on some of your favorite female stars.

“Little Black Dress” on a Prairie.

Here are two of the ads for Chanel’s Fall 2009 ad campaign, shot at Creative Director, Karl Lagerfield’s Vermont home. The ads give off Little House on the Prairie and just scream BEAT. This reminds me of a shoot I did with photographer, Charles Trahan II over at MESH., which is available here. Hope to see more really soon. Check it out.

What Would Coco Do?

Chanel Store BagWe here at Urban Couture are major fans of the French house of Chanel, founded by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel  in 1909. I personally believe it should be a staple in any woman’s wardrobe (be it in their means), especially the famous Chanel suit and the classic quilted 2.55 bag. And while that will forever hold true, I’m very torn over their latest bag, the 31 Rue Cambon Tote.

Chanel Store Bag 3

I’m not sure if my colleagues will agree with me, but I’m not a fan of the tote(s), which are essentially leather versions of the store’s shopping bags, most notably from Chanel’s Paris boutique (located at-you guessed it-31 Rue Cambon). While I love Chanel, I don’t think I’d want to walk around town with a leather store bag. Of course, it’s not marketed towards me… But I’ve been wondering, would Coco herself, approve?!? She’s revolutionized women’s high fashion, but is this something she hoped for? What are your thoughts on the bag? Love it or Leave it?

Stay Classick!

Their Own Private Getaway.

Tis the season for the release of Resort 2010 designs, my all around favorite.  Resort is all about sophistication, vibrancy and style. I mean how else should you look when you go on a exotic vacation with your honey, or even your friends. Here are my top five picks for Resort 2010 “Collection of the Year” lol.

Thakoon Panichgul debuted his self-titled line, Thakoon, in 2004 and has been on the rise ever since. With a nod to his Asian heritage he has an eye for intricate detailing and this line is no different. From floral prints to emaculate rouching this collection is definitely one of my top five faves.

We all know Chanel is known for it’s sophistication, vibrancy and style, so of course they’d have a great Resort 2010 collection, and of course it would be one of my faves. With this collection we get a little taste of the Renaissance, which Chanel has been doing a lot of lately, possibly because it’s so darn good!!! There’s also a nautical feel. Check it out.

Here’s something a little more realistic for the #brokeandbougie out there. BCBG Max Azria has, for years, been designing for the edgy, young chick, and this collection is no different. These designs are perfect for showing your long, limber legs and your great style. I hope to see a few of my friends sporting some of this, just wish they would’ve picked a different back drop.

Now we all know I couldn’t leave out my FAVORITE designer of all time. Burberry, known for catering to the older rich person, is now trying to cater to their children with the line Burberry Prorsum. This line is all about shapes and natural hues, and has an overall class that is hard to not like. Their Resort 2010 collection speaks volumes and I ASSURE you that I will own something from this collection. That is all lol. Check it out for yourself.

Last, but certainly not least, we have the effervescent Zac Posen. This collection screams “Carmen” with it’s spanish flare. I always love what Zac Posen brings to the table and this collection is def at the top of my list. Check it out.

Vote for your favorite choice as Resort 2010 “Collection of the Year”.

If Chanel Ruled the World.

So if Chanel hadn’t already taken everything and made it their own, they have recently designed their very own Segway. Yes, as in the thing we, as Howard students, see the wack campus police riding around on. Luckily, Chanel’s is nothing like the ones we see daily. Their Segway comes complete with the classic 2.55 handbag, with matching black quilted-leather mud flaps and handlebars. This special device can get up to 12 miles per hour lol. Just imagine seeing our campus security riding around so luxoriously. I personally would respect them a lot more lol. But if you’re saying to yourself, “Bump campus police, I wanna be stylin’ with that,” I’d advise you to start saving up because as I recall, the Chanel bike went for $12,000 and I’m sure they’d want more for this. But if this isn’t worth thousands of dollars, then I don’t know what is.

‘Tis the Day of Love.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine’s Day fashion lovers. As we all know today is the day to show love, but what we don’t always remember is that it’s not always just for our “better half”. Being that this year I don’t have that special someone to share this day with, I’ve decided to give love to my wardrobe. After watching Confessions of a Shopaholic last night I’ve gained a new found appreciation for my clothing and the fact that it’s all paid for, lol. But seriously, let us show a little love for the one thing that is ALWAYS there for us, FASHION. Whenever I’m down I have my clothes, or the purchase of more to cheer me up. Whenever I’m cold I have a nice sweater or jacket to warm me. Whenever I’m bored I have a new fashion show or fashion blog to check out. Lastly, whenever I don’t have a fresh haircut or i have bags under my eyes from not receiving enough sleep, I have a hat or a pair of sunglasses to make me look like a million bucks. Could your girlfriend or boyfriend do that?? Don’t think so. So let us show fashion a little love today.
