I’m Not Crazy…Don’t Call Me Crazy.

Photographer, Matt Irwin has really captured the essence of a psycho killer with his photo story in the June issue of Dazed & Confused. Inspired by the movie, An American Psycho, this is a scary take on fashion. As a preview to the A/W 2009 menswear collections, this set of photos is stimulating to the eye, mind and wallet, making you want to go out and immediately buy most of the designs. With designers from Balenciaga to D&G, I’d love to wear just about anyone of the styles. Check it out for yourself.

Fashion Gurus of The Week… Past Few Months Actually…

dsc01340

NAME: Michelle Najla Anthony

AGE: 20

HOMETOWN: Philadelphia, PA & Liberia

1. WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN CHOOSING YOUR CLOTHING?

The main thing that inspires me when choosing particular clothing to wear is sophistication and neatness. I like to look stylish, but also keep it simple. Color also plays a major role when I am choosing clothing. I like to mix things up, not always too bright but a little color.

2. WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LABLES/DESIGNERS AND WHY?

I don’t really have a favorite label or designer because at the moment I cannot really afford the things that I would like to wear… Fashion can be high priced and affordable. There are places where you can go that have nice and affordable clothing,  from H&M to Heritage. Then there’s high priced clothing from,  Roc & Republic jeans to shoes like Jimmy Choos. I mean if you are a real FASHONISTA, you can make anything look name brand.

3. NAME A FEW PIECES (CLOTHING, SHOES, ACCESSORIES, ETC.) THAT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT…

I cannot live without my heels and cardigans. I love them.

4. WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO/PREDICTING FOR THE FUTURE (NEXT SEASON, NEXT YEAR…)?

Well I’m hoping for a new look next season… I’m not really into the bright weird color look but people can pull it off and I don’t knock them for that. I’m looking for something different and hopefully trendy.

1. WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN CHOOSING YOUR CLOTHING?

The thing that inspires me the most when I choose my clothes is my mood. If I’m feeling a certain way, I tend to choose clothing that may reflect that, yet still looks good on me.

2. WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LABELS/DESIGNERS AND WHY?

I don’t have one favorite label. If I like it and it looks good on me, that’s my favorite for the time being, whether it’s H&M or BCBG. My favorite designer will hopefully forever be Chanel, but I also like relatively new designers like Zac Posen. Chanel is just timeless and you can mix and match a Chanel jacket with Gap jeans. Zac Posen is fresh and I love the fit and lines of his clothes.

3. NAME A FEW PIECES (CLOTHING, SHOES, ACCESSORIES, ETC.) THAT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT…

I can’t live without my iPhone and iPod, my Tory Burch flats, and Asos.com.

4. WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO/PREDICTING FOR THE FUTURE (NEXT SEASON, NEXT YEAR…)?

I’m glad that chunky stacked heel trend is still around because they tend to be sky high and actually the most comfortable. Although I like the padded shoulders in jackets and shirts trend, it may not take off like others. Even so I may try to get my hands on a cute little blazer or jacket with padded shoulders (not too much padding of course) to mix with a white tee shirt, some denim shorts and a pair of Keds. Cute, comfortable, and affordable all in one.

Pre-Fall Collections to Long For.

The Fall and Winter seasons are definitely my favorite because I am a fiend for layering. Now is that time of the year when designers begin deciding on what is in store for this year’s ending seasons. From the esquisite styles of Chanel métiers d’art,  for the ladies, to the potent tailoring of Masatomo for the guys, the look of Fall 2009 seems to be a move toward Black Tie Society. Check it out.

Karl Lagerfeld launched Chanel’s métiers d’art collection in 2002 as a way to showcase the skills of the house-owned specialty couture ateliers, pioneering a trend to hyper-luxury and fanning pre-collection mania. Here are a couple of the ready-to-wear looks.

The tradition of good tailoring and the refinement in the finishings declined by Masatomo on items of the male wardrobe which ally high elegance with a casual feel, have been the signature of this designer’s brand since it has started, nearly two decades ago. With this collection, he gives the ideal of standing out and yet remaining in the facade of staples.

As always, Burberry Prorsum revisits the classics with neutral colors, cocktail dresses, oversized cardigan sweaters and playing with pleating and scrunching. ANTM season 5 winner Nicole is a new face for the Pre-Collection and so has the average Burberry look. See for yourself.

D&G, the child line of the brand Dolce & Gabbana, is a more casual line that follows an urban inspiration and attempts to set trends rather than follow them. It is known to be the younger, more flamboyant line of the two and with this year’s Pre-Fall Collection you get just that. These are actually two of the less “extra” designs.

John Galliano’s pre-fall collection for Christian Dior took inspiration from two distinct aesthetics: Alfred Hitchcock’s icy heroines and Helmut Newton’s tough-chic glamazons. The outcome is a very chic collection, showcasing suits, furs and gorgeous cocktail and evening gowns, something i feel every woman should own at least one of.

Danish designer Bertoni showed at Stockholm’s fashion week with a beautiful collection. With suits, sweaters, velvets and knits, the collection conatins the essentials for Fall’s weather. Check it out!!!

Moving on to a more casual approach, Tory Burch infused mosaic prints into her feminine blouses and day dresses for the Pre-Fall Collection. These designs can easily go from day to night and are not as bland as some of our other choices for Fall. Have a look.

Continuing the casual approach are two designers that have become a hit in the urban society. Unfortunately, their cheaper line Girbaud is no longer anything I’d condone anyone wearing, but Marithe et Francois Girbaud has a few looks that caught my eye. PLEASE don’t stop reading my blog for this lls.

Now we’re back to classy with one of my favorite women’s designers, Roberto Cavali. Favoring body-conscious silhouettes and plenty of draping and folding, Roberto Cavalli played up botanical, animal and feather motifs in a neutral palette with dashes of turquoise and fuchsia. Me likey!!!

Lanvin affirms its style with an obvious elegance. Chic comes with a light touch and exceptional fabrics, always with the light-hearted attention to detail that confirms the revival of the house’s masculine wardrobe. The fall collection is beyond unique and yet still remains timeless. From suits to boots, cardigans to scarves, the designs are impecable and I hope to own a few articles myself.

Last for my ladies is the amazing Zac Posen. He is known for doing corky yet classic looks and this collection is no different. Zac Posen showed a salon-style presentation with plenty of French flair: flirty trumpet skirts paired with matching jackets reminiscent of the Forties along with red-carpet-ready silk fringe dresses. Check it out!!!

Last, but certainly not least is Hermes International, S.A. Hermes is a French high fashion house specializing in leather, ready-to-wear, lifestyle accessories, and perfumery luxury goods. With there fall menswear collection they have come HARD!!! No longer will we only go to them for our scarf collection, you’re going to want to own a few of these pieces. Check it out!!!

Carolyn Massey and TOPMAN.

As I stated in a previous entry, I love TOPMAN USA. I recently found out about their LENS line, which is released twice a year in Febuary and September. The line features different designers, inviting them to make small collections for the line. This seasons five include, Dexter Wong, Kasper Harup-Hansen, MJOLK, James Long and a new fave of mine, Carolyn Massey.

Carolyn Massey has established herself as one of the key names in British menswear (soon to come to the states), producing relaxed luxury clothes and a number of beast pieces for her TOPMAN LENS collection. She will take place in London’s Fashion Week with her first solo show on Febuary 25th and I’m super excited to see it. But don’t fret, you won’t have to wait that long to get a sneak peak of her Spring/Summer 2009 collection. Check it out!!!

NAME: Carl Davis

AGE: 20

HOMETOWN: Warrenton, NC

1. WHAT INSPIRES YOU WHEN CHOOSING YOUR CLOTHING?

Ideas pop into my head most of the time and I go from there. I do get inspiration from other sources. Kanye West has a big influence, as well as European runway.

2. WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE LABELS/DESIGNERS AND WHY?

Ralph Lauren (not to be confused with Polo). His designs are classic, yet very modern and sophisticated. They are also well made and detailed using high quality materials. Louis Vuitton—> timeless.

3. NAME A FEW PIECES (CLOTHING, SHOES, ACCESSORIES, ETC.) THAT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT…

Sweaters. Loafers. Sunglasses.

4. WHAT TRENDS ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO/PREDICTING FOR THE FUTURE (NEXT SEASON, NEXT YEAR…)?

I can’t wait until spring. The bright colors. The weather with no coat, unless I want one. I think pastel colors are what I’ll be wearing a lot of this coming season. I’m also getting a little attracted to Gucci. You’ll probably see me in a few [Gucci] items real soon.

Marc by Marc Jacobs

Spring 2009 is vastly approaching and the amazing American designer, Marc Jacobs, has a lot in store for you fashion fanatics. As many of you may know he launched the amazingly sheek, yet affordable Marc by Marc Jacobs line in 2001. Since then, the line has grown to become a fashion lover’s must-have and never fails to put out the most sought-after clothing and accessories. His runway show this fall got terrific raves and is one of my top favorite, next to the Burberry Prorsum Spring Summer 2009. To form your own 2009 collection, fellas check out Bloomingdale’s and ladies check out ShopBop. If you even begin to consider yourself slightly fashionable, you MUST own something by Marc this spring. I know I will.

Hello Fashion Junkees!

Chanel Home-Made Tie

Hello there my fellow fashion lovers. 2009 marks the year of reaping. So anything you have “sewn” during the past year into your harvest will now be executed times two. That even includes your wardrobe. Many of us buy things year round, wear it a couple of times and then we’re done. Why, do you ask?? Because no one wants to be caught dead in anything twice. Well I’m here to tell you that things should be different this year. Some things are just timeless and can be taken out of it’s usual element. For example, you’ve been wearing those same tired church shoes for the past two or three years and unfortunately they’ve become quite worn out. Well how about next week you wear them with some sleek slacks, a nice button down shirt and your favorite sweater giving you the ever so popular vintage look with out even doing the rumaging. Don’t think I forgot about you ladies, take that old hair wrap of yours and give yourself the old nautical look with an exaggerated home-made bow tie. Just remember that fashion is forever and one person’s trash is another’s treasure. Don’t let them have what you put your hard earned summer savings into, just mix it up.
